Composting is the natural biological process of converting the house hold organic waste into to enriched compost which is widely used in the farming as natural fertilizer.

Composting Process :

  

 Traditionally existed only 1 way of composting but as urban development so the also the need to introduce new methods of composting evolved. As of today there exist 2 ways of composting, they are :-

1) Manual Composting or Traditional Composting Process.

2) Automatic/ Semi Automatic Composting Process.

Manual Composting or Traditional Composting Process :- 

 In this method, we use aerobic process for composting. First of all a place is selected in the extreme location where we can build a box type structure i.e composting pit, were all the composting process can take place.

On daily basis, the waste as classified above is collected in with the help of dustbin & then dumped inside the pit.

Inside the pit on daily basis with the help of micro organism in the presence of air the composting process takes place. It usually required around 25-30 days for the complete composting process to effectively take place. 

And YES there exist the odor of the waste which we put inside the pit but under controlled supervision  it can be eliminated.

The most effective way to eliminate the odor is, on daily basis once the waste is sorted & dumped inside the composting pit spread around 1-2 cm thick layer of dry leaves which helps to release the methane gas in periodic basis & thereby eliminate the odor.

 TIPS TO GET MOST EFFECTIVE COMPOST:-

1)  Before dumping the organic waste inside the composting pit, chop it down in to small particles so 

     that the composting process takes places more efficiently. 

2)  Putting layers of Dry leaves every time we put the waste in to the pit.

3)  Providing a proper channel to drain out the water present in the organic waste inside the pit.

4)  Providing the  proper covering arrangement so that animals like rodents do not interfere the       

     composting process.

Now in today's world, were it is hard for the people itself to find a place to live its next to impossible to find a place for composting pit.

In order to solve this, there are various innovative ideas brought for our ease.

 Automatic Composting Process :-

 In this process the composting takes place usually at much faster rate as it involved the process of   

 burning down the waste at higher temperature. 

 We can put all the waste as classified earlier in the opening provided in the machine on daily basis &   then the machine is set ON, which thereby reduces the waste in to powder form & release various  

 gases in to the atmosphere. 

 The only & most important disadvantage of the automatic process is that the output which we get is   of nearly no use as all the nutrient present in the organic waste are burnt out.

Parameters on which to select whether to go for Manual composting or Automatic composting are as below:-

1) COST :  The mother of parameters, if cost is concern & you want to get the best compost manual method is the one to go for.

As compared to the automatic the capital cost involved is very less in manual composting.

2) Compost Quality : In Manual composting method the output quality of the compost is very high & it all depend upon how well you have managed the process.

As you would be now aware that in most of the automatic processing machine they directly burn out the waste & thus the output is nothing but a mere ash compost.

3) Process Cycle : The process cycle of the most of the automatic machine is nearly 2-3 days maximum as they directly burn the waste & so not entertain the natural process of composting.

So if you are not bothered to get the best compost then you can surely go with Automatic composting machine.

4) Space Required : Over here it will all depend upon the total amount of daily waste collected the space availability in the vicinity for placing the machine or creating a pit.

Usually, if sufficient space is available & average numbers of waste is collected then my personal recommendation would be to go with the manual composting method, as it would yield you a better compost which in case of excess can be sold out in the market also.
